TAN is required for all deductors/collectors to file TDS/TCS returns, generate TDS certificates, and pay TDS/TCS via challans. Not quoting TAN leads to rejection of returns/challans and a penalty under Section 272BB(1). TAN and PAN are different; PAN cannot substitute TAN.
